[RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter] Solve your measurement problems in 2 seconds!

Using RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter and Acoustic Volume meter, you can easily measure the object in just 2 seconds without getting it wet. In this article, we will introduce the measurement of capacity. If you are interested in measuring with a volume meter, please click below. (Move to another article.)

Difficulties in measuring the volume of an engine’s combustion chamber

When measuring the volume of an object, the buret method is commonly used, which involves pouring oil or other liquid into a cavity and measuring the volume. However, the buret method has the following characteristics, which makes it very difficult to measure.

  • Measurement takes a long time
  • After measurement, it is necessary to wash and dry viscous liquids such as oil to restore the current condition.
  • Skilled techniques are required to measure

A typical example where the buret method is used is inside the head block combustion chamber of an automobile engine. Since combustion chambers are closely related to fuel efficiency, it is necessary to accurately measure the volume and reduce variations in the volume of each combustion chamber. Combustion chambers have complex aspects, and the internal volume of each combustion chamber varies slightly, making it extremely difficult to measure. In addition, It takes about an hour to measure the volume of a 4-cylinder engine.

5 features of RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter

RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter provides an alternative to the traditional burette method for volume measurement. RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter has 5 features.

Part 1: RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter is used around the world.

RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter is used by world-renowned engine manufacturers.

Part 2: Can be measured in a dry state without getting the measurement target wet

This eliminates the need for a drying process after measurement, making it possible to measure objects that would be inconvenient to wet. Since measurements can be taken in a dry state, it is possible to perform repeated measurements in short time.

Part 3: Extremely short time required for measurement

With the conventional method with using some liquid, it took about an hour to complete the measurement, but now it can be measured in about 2 seconds after setting the measuring device on the object to be measured, which is a significant time saving.

Part 4: Easy to operate, no skill required

Capacity can be measured simply by placing the device on a measurement object. We have realized a measurement method that gives the same measurement results regardless of whether you are an expert or a novice.

Part 5: High accuracy even after repeated measurements

High accuracy even after repeated measurements.

RION’s Acoustic Capacity Meter has an accuracy of 50 ml ± 0.05 ml. (Reference environmental condition is 20℃, 50% lower)

For example, when measuring the volume of an object to be measured of approximately 50 c㎥, it achieves a measurement accuracy of ±0.05 c㎥.

Principle of RION’s Acoustic Capacity meter

The appearance of the capacity meter and the engine combustion chamber that object to be measured.

Configuration of the volume meter.

The capacity meter has a two-layer structure: Capacity A (Sound source chamber capacity) and Capacity B (Measurement Enclosure). Capacity A is equipped with two microphones and a speaker. Each microphone detects the sound pressure of Capacity A and Capacity B.

A speaker is located between Capacity A and Capacity B, and when it emits sound, it vibrates the air in both enclosures. At this time, the amplitudes of the minute sounds of Capacity A and Capacity B are inversely proportional to their respective volumes.

Using this property, it is possible to calculate the volume of the object to be measured from the sound pressures of Capacity A and Capacity B detected by the microphones.

It is also possible to measure the combustion chamber of assembled engines

It is also possible to measure the combustion chamber volume of the engine after assembly. By inserting a special adapter into the spark plug hole, you can measure the volume of the combustion chamber.
