Using RION’s Acoustical Capacity Meter and Acoustical Volume meter, you can easily measure the object in just 2 seconds without getting it wet. In this article, we will introduce the measurement of volume. If you are interested in measuring with a capacity volume meter, please check below. (Move to another article.)
Difficulties in measuring volume using Archimedes method
The Archimedean method has long been a popular method for measuring the volume of an object. Archimedes’ method is a principle that measures the buoyancy of an object by submerging it in water. However, the Archimedean method has the following characteristics, which makes it very difficult to measure.
- Measurement takes a long time
- After measurement, it is necessary to wash and dry to restore the current condition.
- Skilled techniques are required to measure
6 features of RION’s acoustic volume meter
RION’s Acoustical Volume meters provide an alternative to the traditional Archimedes method for volume measurement. Rion’s Acoustic Capacity Meter has 6 features.
Part 1: RION’s Acoustic Volume Meter is used around the world
RION’s Acoustic Volume Meter is used by world-renowned engine manufacturers.
Part 2: Can be measured in a dry state without getting the measurement target wet
This eliminates the need for a drying process after measurement, making it possible to measure objects that would be inconvenient to wet. Since measurements can be taken in a dry state, the next measurement can be taken immediately.
Part 3: Extremely short time required for measurement
With the conventional measurement method, it took about an hour to complete the measurement, but now it can be measured in about 2 seconds after setting the measuring device on the object to be measured, which is a significant time saving.
Part 4: Easy to operate, no skill required
We have realized a measurement method that gives the same measurement results regardless of whether you are an expert or a novice.
Part 5: High accuracy even after repeated measurements
High accuracy even after repeated measurements.
RION’s Acoustical Volume Meter has an accuracy of 100 ml ± 0.1 ml (Reference environmental condition is 20℃, 50% lower)
Part 6: Also functions as a density meter
An additional noteworthy feature is that once the mass is known, it can also function as a density meter.
Mass ÷ Volume = Density |
Of course, it is possible to find the density without wetting the object.
Principle of RION’s Acoustic Volume Meter
The volume meter has a two-layer structure: Volume A (Sound source chamber capacity) and Volume B (Measurement Enclosure). Volume A is equipped with two microphones and a speaker. Each microphone detects the sound pressure of volume A and volume B.
A speaker is located between volume A and volume B, and when it emits sound, it vibrates the air in both enclosures. At this time, the amplitudes of the minute sounds of volume A and volume B are inversely proportional to their respective volumes.
Using this property, it is possible to calculate the volume of the object to be measured from the sound pressures of volume A and volume B detected by the microphones.
[Extra edition] RION also has a weight acoustic volume meter
This is a volume meter for air buoyancy correction, produced according to the instructions of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.
The difference in volume between a standard weight of the same type and shape as the weight to be measured and a known volume can be precisely measured in air.
By using three types of measuring enclosure, large, medium and small, it is possible to measure the volume of OIML standard weights from 20g to 10kg.
